So as I commented on the Legend of Korra facebook post “Who is Amon?” I will go a little bit into more detail about my theory of Amon.

First off, Amon is not Aang. I mean honestly those who watch the show, even if they barley started watching LoK, should know about the Avatar Cycle! Dur! When one Avatar dies another is reborn. So in order for Korra to be, Aang had to die.
While I watched the latest episode “Out of the Past”, when Tarlock was using blood-bending on Amon, Amon did not succumb to him. He would pause for a moment while he ‘fought’ off the bending and then kept walking. Hmmm very suspicious.

As I watched this scene I basically tuned out the rest of the show (having to rewind my DVR afterward) in result of a flashback. Back in Avatar: The Last Airbender “Puppet Master” episode, Katara overpowered Hama when she tried to use blood-bending on her. Katara was a greater bender then Hama, enabling her to break free from the blood bending. What if Amon, too, was able to break free from Tarlock’s blood-bending because he is a water-beander? I don’t recall anything in previous episodes showing that he isn’t a bender. Other than being anti-bending.
I went on to speculate that if Amon was really a water-bender it can give us a lead to understand how he can take someones bending away. I know it’s a bit of a stretch but the ability of water-bending being used as a healing element could possibly enable someone who has a deep concentration and great strength to enter a powerful state of master ability. In this case Amon definitely has that. With his parents death and his scars a motivation and as seen in the little scenes he appears in, he is fast and strong.
With this master ability in water-bending, maybe Amon could be able to tap into energy bending and take someones else’s bending. It just really has to do with Amon’s strength and bending (that’s hypothesizing he is a water-bender). Again, I am stretching the line but it’s just something that came to mind.
Does this sound plausible? Anyone agree with me?
